The New England Patriots suffered a disappointing 37-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium in Week 9, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t any standout performers for the defending Super Bowl champions.

Pro Football Focus has released its top-graded players for Week 9, and Patriots right tackle Marcus Cannon was the second-highest rated player. Cannon earned a 93.8/100 graded.

Here’s what PFF’s Austin Gayle wrote about Cannon’s play against the Ravens:

Cannon was perfect in pass protection against the Ravens on Sunday night, allowing zero pressures across 48 pass-blocking snaps en route to a high pass-blocking grade for the week. Cannon also impressed as a run-blocker the few times New England went to the ground game.

The Patriots offensive line wasn’t perfect Sunday — quarterback Tom Brady was sacked twice and hit 10 times — but Cannon certainly did his job.

New England’s offensive line could receive a boost in a few weeks when talented left tackle Isaiah Wynn is eligible to be activated from injured reserve and return to game action. Wynn has not played since Week 2, and his replacement, Marshall Newhouse, has not performed at a high level in his absence.

The Patriots have a Week 10 bye and will resume their schedule in Week 11 with a road game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Matt LaCosse Jersey

LaCosse caught two of his targets for three yards in Sunday’s 17-10 win over the Eagles.

In his return to action from an MCL injury that caused him to miss three games, LaCosse logged 21 snaps in the contest. Meanwhile, fellow tight end Ben Watson was on the field for 59 snaps Sunday, en route to catching three of his four targets for 52 yards. As long as Watson stays healthy, LaCosse’s fantasy value will be limited.

The New England Patriots listed eight players on their final injury report heading into the weekend, but not one of them was initially ruled out: all eight men were officially questionable to play on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. Since then, however, the club decided to downgrade one of them as tight end Matt LaCosse has not made the trip south and as a result will officially miss the primetime contest against the AFC North leaders.

Getting deactivated is nothing new for LaCosse, who will now have missed five of nine possible games since joining the Patriots as a free agency acquisition this offseason. He already missed Weeks 1 and 3 due to a sprained ankle originally suffered in the preseason opener, and was out for the last two games as well because of a knee injury. While he did return to practice this week, the 27-year-old is apparently not yet ready for in-game action.

With LaCosse out and fellow tight end Eric Tomlinson released earlier this week, the Patriots will again turn to veteran acquisition Benjamin Watson to play a prominent role at tight end. The 38-year-old already played 110 of a possible 151 offensive snaps (72.8%) since rejoining the club two weeks ago, and is projected to again lead the position depth chart — especially with Ryan Izzo being questionable to play after previously suffering a concussion.

Izzo, unlike LaCosse, has not yet been ruled out and is one of seven players who project to be game-time decisions: running backs James White (toe) and Rex Burkhead (foot), wide receivers Julian Edelman (chest/shoulder) and Gunner Olszewski (ankle/hamstring), guard Shaq Mason (ankle), and safety Patrick Chung (heel/chest) are also no safe bets to play against Baltimore.
